permit drawing over other apps greyed out

App Permissions Denied/ Greyed out - Screen overlay detected Jun 19, 2016

  1. kolliprasad , Jun 19, 2016 :
    Unable to change App Permissions.
    Options are greyed out/ denied.
When trying to enable, pop up message appears "Screen overlay detected".
When clicked Open Settings, screen opens for Draw over other apps.
Again same cycle of above screens appear one after another.

Anyone knows how to enable App permissions?

The only workaround here is to disable all apps that draw over other apps, change permissions, then re-enable the draw over other apps. Sucks

    malidan and Patman75 like this.

Same trouble for me with one plus 3 overlay in the most of app impossible to change

Fixed. Restarted phone in Standby mode, changed app permissions, and then restarted again.

I found the culprit was FooView Alpha. Damn shame it's a good app.

That is a problem with apps that do these overlays as Google has changed how it handles app permissions. This is a google implementation in stock android.

So it's not a bug, but a feature Google has implemented. Most of the time its FB messenger if you use Chat heads, or some other app.

Strange, I never had this problem with my OnePlus One running Cyanogen Android 6.01.

I think cos has its own app permission implementation if I don't remember wrong

    I'm having this same problem.

I went through the "draw over other apps" section and said "no" on every single one.

I deleted Twilight, DU Battery, All in One, Clean Master, Facebook Messenger, and StartManager.

    I went into safe mode.

I *still* can't change the permissions for Acrobat, skype, and Chrome to let me download files, save pictures, etc.

same problem for me. Need help

So there is no actual solution. I have never had any of the following installed on my phone Twilight, DU Battery, All in One, Clean Master, Facebook Messenger, nor StartManager. So I believe it is a deeper issue here. Everyone's just talking of little tricks they have tried but is there an official solution that actually works?

just clear and force stop all apps running and there should be no screen overlay detected

I was facing this same screen overlay detected error few days before and I was not able to open newly installed app, I tried many solutions but only one solution worked effectively and that is first I turned off screen overlay of all apps, by following setting:
    1. Open Settings
    2. Open App
    3. Click on Options on top right corner
    4. Open Draw Over Other Apps and then turn off screen overlay of all apps
Once you turned off screen overlay of all apps then enable all permissions of apps on which you were facing this error, if you were facing this error while using Instagram app then enable all permissions of instagram by going into Settings, Apps, instagram, Permissions, now turn on all permissions of instagram and then you won't face screen overlay while using instagram app
You can refer to below link to know more about Screen Overlay
    what is screen overlay
hope this work for you, if you have any query then ask me below...

Why are you resurrecting a dead thread..
The issue the guy had was with Marshmallow ( if I am not wrong) since permission handling was different in it.
Google sorted it out since Nougat.
And the issue is no more.

Please help me! I am pretty clueless when it comes to mobile phones and this is my first android phone. This is what happened with me....

I bought a new Xperia LI mobile phone. It had a huge anount of Contacts on it already, and it was supposed to be a new phone. Ao I send it back to get another one, and same exact thing on the other new phone. So I gave up with trying to get a phone without someone else's contacts on it.

So for this reason, being that I know next to nothing about mobile phones, I came across this thing that kept asking me 4 questions about permissions, and allowing Contacts to access your this and that. I was afraid that all of these Strangers as Contacts on my phone would be able to access things on my phone and so I clicked on all 4 of the 'deny permissions' questions.

Little did I know that doing this would make it where I can'r even add a Contact of my own on my phone now, and I cannot even send a Message to anyone.

So when I tried going to aps and settings and permissions to undo this, the permissions thing is greyed out and I can't even click on it at all.

Can you please help me with this problem? I am moving house shortly and I really do need to be able to use my phone, like desperately.
